Meredith Assists Gilford at Two Structure Fires
November 4, 2010
14 Tanker and 14 Engine 2 responded to 72 Varney Point Road in Gilford to assist with a structure fire. Initially responding as part of a first alarm assignment, the incident quickly went to 3 alarms due to the structure involved being in close proximity to Fay's Boat Yard. Large numbers of fiberglass boats are stored there and presented a significant hazard due to the exposure problem. The fire was quickly knocked down and 14 Tanker 5 was released by command. 14 Engine 2 remained on scene for several hours to assist with overhaul. As 14 Engine 2 was about to go in service Gilford companies were alerted to another structure fire in the basement on Woodland Avenue. A 1st alarm was immediately called due in part to several of Gilford's apparatus still committed to the first scene. 14 Tanker 5 along with companies from Laconia and Belmont responded. Close proximity of Belmont's Engine 2 and Laconia's Ladder 1 made quick work of the fire and command returned 14 Tanker 5 prior to it arriving at the scene. 14 Engine 2 provided cover at the Gilford Station.
